Universal Belongings is a direct-to-consumer home goods venture founded in 2019 in New York. The work explores how thoughtfully designed essentials can elevate everyday rituals of gathering, dining, and domesticity.
The project emerged from a simple constraint: hosting in a compact Manhattan apartment. It led to an exploration of how a modest collection of durable, well-made objects could support generous social life. The resulting pieces balance refinement with practicality and perform equally well for everyday use and informal entertaining.
Drawing from both Eastern and Western traditions of communal dining, the work favors straightforward forms, durable materials, and carefully resolved details. The goal is assured longevity — pieces that age gracefully, remain useful over time, and become part of daily routines.
Working directly with manufacturing partners in Hong Kong and mainland China, the venture encompasses product design, brand identity, packaging, photography, manufacturing and logistics coordination, and direct-to-consumer distribution and fulfillment.
